Michael J. Farrell is a native of County Longford in the Irish midlands. A varied career included many years in journalism in the USA. His novel Papabile won Kansas City’s Thorpe Menn Award in 1998. He retired with wife Marilyn to Ireland in 2003 and published his first short story collection, Life In The Universe, with The Stinging Fly Press in 2009. The story À la Descartes is from his second collection, Life Here Below, published by New Island Books in July 2014.
