Gertrude Stein (Allegheny, February 3rd, 1874 - Neuilly-sur-Seine, July 27th, 1946), American writer and poet, through her activity and her work has given a powerful impetus to the development of modern art and modernist literature. Openly homosexual, her relationship with the writer Alice Toklas is one of the most well known in the LGBT history.
