Jack London, born John Griffith Chaney London (San Francisco, January 12, 1876 – Glen Ellen, November 22, 1916) was an American writer. After an adventurous youth, spent doing the toughest jobs, from being an illegal fisherman to a boxer, from gold digger to war correspondent, he became well-known after the age of 30. He is best known for his literary works dealing with social issues. Quite a prolific author, during his life he published about fifty volumes of novels, collections of short stories and essays.
