A classic to reread
A vivid novel, set in the region of Abruzzo in the 20 years of fascist regime. The protagonists are the peasants of Fontamara, who till the land and are forced by poverty and ignorance to suffer the abuses of the gentlemen. An extremely bitter story, where the hope of improvement appears to be fatally denied. A novel that passes the limits of time and space, to rise to parable of every humiliated people. A must read.
