Declining aloneness
The undisputed protagonist of this short novel is loneliness. In a narrative, that is more like an unconscious exchange between two monologues, the readers, almost like in the theater, are allowed to see through the eyes of the two characters, to feel their expectations, the pain that flows under the veil of a non-desired normality. They can just be stunned to discover that the two voices, started from opposite directions, meet and overlap.
We allow Mauvignier to have all the stylistic freedoms he wants, all those sentences that end with a semicolon, all those dialogues which are often confused with thoughts: the result is great and we cannot regret a single page we read.
